VidTrans 2018 Tutorial

"IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) - What Every Media Professional Needs to Know"

Description: IEEE 1588 PTP is a key foundational technology for IP video and audio networking. It removes the need for constructing overlay synchronization networks for each type of media signal within the studio. SMPTE’s brand new ST 2110 series of IP video specifications are built on top of PTP, as is the AES 67 IP audio standard and proprietary audio formats such as Dante. Interoperability testing has shown that PTP can scale to cover large numbers of devices, provided that it is installed and configured correctly. This course will cover the key aspects of PTP technology, including message formats, system components, PTP profiles and clock distribution, grandmaster selection, and other major aspects of IEEE 1588. Particular emphasis will be placed on showing how PTP relates to the SMPTE ST 2059 Epoch, clock offsets and RTP timestamp processing. A live PTP network demonstration may also be provided during the class.

Time: Monday, February 26, 2018 3:00-5:00 pm PST at the Marina del Rey Marriott in the Catalina Room on the Lower Level. Light refreshments will be provided.
